Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from the household, the actress was brought up by her mother, godparents, and grandmother. She suffered from an anxiety disorder caused by words as a young child. Ford's passion for acting started as a child. She joined the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time but Ford realized this was not the best location for her. Ford decided to apply for the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning the position on her 4th application. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her fellow students. Ford graduated in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. During the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate would also frequently work as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate was soon recognized for her stand-up comedies which were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
